The Villager Book Club is a roaming book club and occasional reading retreat, popping-up at intimate venues in villages, towns and cities across the UK. Events are hosted by me, Emma Galvin, with the aim of finding connection through the books we love.
You’ll be able to find out about our latest book picks and upcoming events on Instagram, and details about how to book our events will be posted there too, along with dates, times and venues.
You don’t have to come along to every event, just pick the ones you can make it to, but it’s a good idea to book early as spaces are limited by the nature of our venues.
Upcoming Events
Thursday 26 March 2026: Heartburn by Nora Ephron, Chapel & Co., Blakesley, Northants
For our March Book Club, we’ll be returning to Chapel & Co. in Blakesley, Northamptonshire, from 8-10pm, to talk about Heartburn by Nora Ephron, a brilliantly witty tale of food, motherhood, heartbreak and revenge. Nora Ephron is an Oscar nominated writer (When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle) and celebrated journalist. Heartburn is also a beautiful film, starring Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson, Catherine O'Hara and Stockard Channing, but don't watch it before you finish the book! For all those who still have a ticket for our cancelled Feb event, you do not need to re-book for this event and are already on the guest list. We will make time in the evening to chat a little bit about Slags by Emma Jane Unsworth too as we missed the opportunity to do so last month.
Tickets for this event will be £25 each, to include drinks and nibbles, and can be booked here.
Sunday 10 May 2026: Pride & Prejudice Literary Lunch & Open Garden, Woodhill Park Estate, Oswestry, Shropshire
Austen lovers: assemble! Get this on your spring day trips agenda pronto. On Sunday 10 May, The Villager Book Club will be hosting a Pride & Prejudice themed literary lunch at the stunning Woodhill Park Estate, alongside The Great Catering Company.
We’ll discuss this culturally cherished book, unravelling what it is that keeps Austen’s story so relevant & compelling to modern readers, as well as the opportunity to take part in a fun quiz to put your Regency knowledge to the test, with Austen-themed prizes for the winners, all whilst you tuck into a Pemberley themed feast including the likes of streaky bacon mushrooms and shallots spiced with mace, nutmeg and cloves, served on hot buttered toasts with a side of mixed leaves; salmagundy (tiered layered salad of roast chicken, cucumber, apples, pickled gherkins, celery, pickled red cabbage, French beans, apples, grapes, watercress and baby spinach, drizzled with classic vinaigrette; and everlasting citrus syllabub, with sherry and orange flower water & jumbles (brown sugar drop biscuits).
Tickets for this event are £39 per person and can be booked here.
Saturday 23 May 2026: Read the Book, Eat the Book, The Food Library, Cecil Road, Northampton
Tickets are now on sale for our May event, a unique collaboration with The Food Library in Northampton. For this very special book club, Chef Michael Mayhew will translate the food from a selected book (more details TBC), creating a five course dining experience to bring the words onto our plates. More details on The Food Library’s Dining Clubs can be found here.
The Food Library is run by Michael Mayhew and Laura Elliott, focusing on sustainability and creativity, and we hope that, coupled with fictional inspiration and adventure, this will be a truly wonderful evening of sharing great food, drink and ideas.
Tickets for this event are £70 per person and must be booked through The Food Library so that the kitchen can ensure they have details of any dietary preferences and/or allergies.
